The core function of our fish-attracting light (fishing light) PCB module is to utilize the phototaxis of fish, attracting schools of fish through a specific spectrum. Its parameter design, light source scheme, and LED selection are entirely focused on fish-attracting efficiency, underwater penetration, and weather resistance reliability.


I. Core Optical Parameter Requirements

1. Luminous Efficacy – Emphasis on Effective Underwater Luminous Efficacy

The luminous efficacy of fish-attracting lights needs to be differentiated between air luminous efficacy (lm/W) and underwater luminous efficacy, because light is largely absorbed in water (red light has the worst penetration, while blue and green light have the strongest penetration):

Air Luminous Efficacy: Conventional high-power fish-attracting lights (1000~5000W), LED light source systems have a luminous efficacy ≥100lm/W; traditional light sources such as xenon lamps/metal halide lamps have lower luminous efficacy (40~60lm/W), but high brightness, and are still used by some fishing boats.

Underwater light efficiency: The core factor is the retention rate of photons in water. Blue light (450~490nm) and green light (500~550nm) have the strongest underwater penetration. At the same power, the effective underwater light efficiency of blue/green light is more than 10 times that of red light.

2. Color Temperature (CCT) – Directly Corresponding to Fish Attraction Spectrum

Color temperature is one of the core reference parameters for fish attracting lights. Different color temperatures correspond to different spectra, suitable for different waters and fish species:

High Color Temperature (10000K~20000K): The spectrum is mainly blue light, with the strongest penetration, suitable for deep-sea fishing (water depth > 50m), such as tuna, cod, and other deep-sea fish that are sensitive to blue light;

Medium Color Temperature (5000K~8000K): The spectrum contains a mixture of blue and green light, with moderate penetration, suitable for near-shore fishing (water depth 10~50m), such as ribbonfish, yellow croaker, and other mid-to-upper-level fish;

Low Color Temperature (3000K~5000K): The spectrum contains a small amount of green and yellow light, with weak penetration, suitable for shallow-sea/freshwater fishing (water depth < 10m), such as carp, crucian carp, and shrimp.

Note: We will use a dual color temperature switching design to adapt to different sea areas and fishing targets.

3. Core Parameters – Luminous Flux and Illumination Angle

Luminous Flux: Fish-attracting lights require high brightness output, with a single luminous flux ≥100,000 lm (high-power LED lights), and even exceeding 500,000 lm (xenon lights), ensuring long-distance fish attraction;

Illumination Angle: Wide-angle light distribution (120°~180°) is used to expand the illumination coverage area; for deep-sea fishing, narrow-angle lenses (30°~60°) can be used to enhance the long-distance penetration of light.


II. Key Considerations for Light Source Design

Precise Spectrum Matching to Fishing Targets

Different fish species exhibit significant differences in phototaxis: mid-to-upper-level fish (such as mackerel and sardines) prefer blue-green light, bottom-dwelling fish (such as flounder) prefer weak yellow light, and shrimp and crabs prefer green light;

Avoid using a predominantly red light spectrum: Red light loses over 90% of its energy after traveling 10m in water, resulting in almost no fish-attracting effect.

Weather Resistance and Protection Design (Core Requirements)

Protection Rating: IP68 (underwater immersion grade) required. The lamp body uses a stainless steel/aluminum alloy shell + tempered glass lens cover, and the sealing ring uses fluororubber resistant to seawater corrosion.

Salt Spray Corrosion Resistance: The lamp body surface undergoes hard anodizing and powder coating treatment, and the PCB board is coated with conformal coating to withstand high salt spray marine environments.

Impact Resistance: The lens cover must meet the mechanical strength requirements for resisting wave impact and fishing gear collisions, with a thickness ≥8mm.

Heat Dissipation Design (Essential for High-Power Light Sources)

Fish-attracting lights typically have a power of 500W or higher. Excessive junction temperature of the LED chip can lead to accelerated light decay and shortened lifespan.

A finned aluminum heat dissipation structure + thermally conductive silicone pad is used, with a heat dissipation area ≥0.02m²/W (e.g., a 1000W lamp requires a heat dissipation area ≥20m²).

For deep-sea fishing vessels, a water-cooling system can be used, utilizing seawater circulation for cooling, which is 3-5 times more efficient than air cooling.

Power Supply and Safety Design: Fishing vessels typically use DC 24V/48V power supplies, requiring a constant current drive with an output current accuracy of ≤±2% to prevent flickering caused by voltage fluctuations. Overcurrent, overvoltage, and short-circuit protection, as well as a lightning protection module (due to the high risk of lightning strikes in the marine environment), should be installed. Lighting fixtures must be grounded to prevent accidents caused by leakage.

Installation and Light Distribution Optimization: Boat-mounted fish-attracting lights are mostly suspended or mast-mounted, requiring a universal adjustable bracket for easy adjustment of the illumination direction. For large-scale fishing, multi-light arrays can be used, with adjacent lights overlapping by 10%~15% to avoid blind spots in attracting fish.


III. LED Chip Selection Fish-attracting lights primarily use high-power LED chips, requiring high brightness and high weather resistance. Specific selection criteria are as follows:

1. Mainstream High-Power SMD Chip Chips

5050/5054 High-Power Chips

Specifications: Single chip power 1~3W, blue light wavelength 450~460nm, green light wavelength 520~530nm, luminous efficacy ≥110lm/W;

Advantages: Small size, suitable for high-density matrix arrangement, can be flexibly combined into modules of different power;

Suitable Scenarios: Small and medium-sized fishing boats nearshore fishing lights (500~2000W).

1. 3030 High-Efficiency LED Chip

Specifications: Single chip power 0.5~1W, luminous efficacy ≥130lm/W, good temperature resistance (operating junction temperature ≤150℃);

Advantages: Outstanding energy saving, suitable for long-duration deep-sea fishing;

Suitable for: High-power integrated fish-attracting lights (2000~5000W).

2. Imitation Lumen High-Power LED Chip

Specifications: Single chip power 3~10W, strong monochromaticity (blue/green light purity >90%), luminous flux ≥2000lm/chip;

Advantages: High brightness, strong penetration, the core choice for deep-sea fish-attracting lights;

Note: Requires a dedicated reflector and lens to optimize long-distance light propagation efficiency; must also be matched with an aluminum substrate and finned heat dissipation to avoid high-temperature failure.

3. COB Integrated LED Chips

Specifications: Single chip power 50~200W, integrating dozens of blue/green light chips, uniform light emission surface, no graininess;

Advantages: High degree of modularity, reducing wiring complexity, suitable for making large-size fish-attracting lights;

Note: Requires high optical design standards, necessitates the use of anti-glare light-transmitting covers to avoid light scattering loss; the heat dissipation system needs to be custom-made to ensure uniform chip heat dissipation.

4. Traditional Light Sources (Alternative Option)

Metal Halide/Xenon Lamps: Power 1000~10000W, extremely high brightness, but low luminous efficacy and short lifespan (only 1000~2000 hours), suitable for large ocean-going fishing vessels with extremely high brightness requirements;

Note: This type of light source generates a lot of heat, requiring a dedicated heat dissipation and ballast device.
